Shoulder Surgery

I did one of my least favorite things last Monday -- I had Surgery! I have worked in hospitals since 1976 (32 years) and I love being a nurse. I hate being a patient!!!
I have been having problems with my shoulder since late spring. I tried therapy, I tried steroid injections, but the pain persisted and my range of motion became more and more limited. The last option was surgery, so I had an arthroscopy on my shoulder. My rotator cuff was fine, but my bursa was a mess. The doctor cleaned that up and removed a bone spur and the end of my clavicle.
I shouldn't complain, but I have been in lots of pain. I thought I had a high tolerance of pain, but not with this and Percocets have become my friend. I can tell that my range of motion is going to be better, but it is still frustrating to have so much pain. I also don't dare drive, so I have had to be driven or just stay home. I was not aware of how much I use my shoulder until I couldn't use it. It is part of sitting up, walking down stairs as well as reaching and holding. It is also hard to type with a shoulder that is hurting.
The up side is that I don't have to go to work for 4 weeks. Well that is not exactly true either -- I still have some meetings and classes I have to go to.
I do appreciate all the love and support my family, friends and neighbors have shown me and hope to be all better soon.

Oh, I can sooooooooo relate to your pain here. Having to be driven around. Check. Taking WAY too many pain pills. Check. Not realizing how nice it is to walk (type, sit up, etc.) Check. Not missing work too bad. Check.

I hope you heal fast (and don't require another surgery)!
